Drunk Mozart

Thursday night, before we left for Dublin, Meryl and I went and saw a marionette opera. It was completely not what I expected, but it was actually really fun and definitely something I probably won't have that many chances to do.

We got there early to get seats, expecting a large opera house, because our tickets didn't have assigned seats. We didn't have anything to worry about though because when we got there the place only sat about 50 or 100 people probably and the stage was really tiny, which actually made sense considering the puppets are really small. The opera was Don Giovanni, by Mozart, which is about this Don Juan type guy who tries to seduce a bunch of women and then at the end gets burned by the fires of Hell by a statue that comes to life. It was all in Italian, so I only recognized like 5 words, but fortunately the program was in English, so we somewhat knew what was going on. Here are a few pictures from the opera:

After the marionette opera, Meryl and I went over to Megan and Kirsten's apartment to say goodbye to everyone. While we were waiting at the door, these two older men, who I'm 99% sure were Italian, came up to us out of nowhere and said, "Is it possible...can we give you these roses?" and presented us with long-stemmed white roses. Then when we left, we actually saw them eating at an Italian restaurant next to Megan's and they tried to get us to sit down with them. They even moved over a table and pulled up chairs. They offered to buy us a bottle of champagne and asked if we wanted spaghetti. Any other day, we probably would have said yes to free champagne and spaghetti, but we had to catch the metro home by midnight and we still hadn't packed for Dublin and we definitely didn't want to have another Frankfurt close call with our flight, so we said no and were a little sad about it, but it was definitely a better life decision. As a consolation we bought a bottle of wine and some hippos and drank it on the metro on the way home.

Oh and I wanted to show everyone a picture of my burned foot...so here it is...and yes, it is painful!
